  1. Hi Heather,

I think that Voice Thread can be the solution to your problem. You mentioned that your students claim that they can't write. Voice Thread is a great tool that they can use to communicate ideas verbally instead of always writing. They are able to communicate with students in their classroom, community, or around the world. I feel the options are endless on using multimedia presentations such as Voice Thread. You can have your students use Voice Thread for journals, storyboards, or presentation. You can even create Voice Threads to explain step by step problems in math or any other content area. It is also a great tool to use in order to differentiate instruction. I hope that this tool helps you solve your boy problems! (geez, after re-reading this it sounds like an infomercial! But I really do think this is a great tool!)

  2. Hi,
I would take all of those boys over a group of girls any day of the week. Talk about drama!!
I find that they like Powerpoint and the online concept mapping, like at Inspiration. From there, they find it easier to turn their diagrams into paragraphs. Another thing is gross stuff. They love to create stories that are goofy and gory. Classics like Beowulf really get them going, especially when adapted to their language with lots of pictures. I have even been successful with Shakespeare. MacBeth is a classic that they enjoy and if you have them design raps with it, then they really can get creative. Good luck!

  3. Wow first of all...all boys!!! Wow!!!! I have not realized that boys had as much drama as girls until this year when my boys were drama filled and my girls were not! I can understand your dilemma with trying to have them to read but have you tried to start off with maybe magazines are comics? I find that boys tend to like these more than novels to start with. Then when they get into comics and or magazines they generally find books that they can relate to.

  4. Thanks! I agree that it can help by letting them put their thoughts in voice first, but how much writing do you think should be required? Maybe I can sneak more and more in on each assignment!
